2001
Pécs
The only one Hungarian race in the Cup. The points László
could get here were important for the Austrian Championship, too.
Luckily he knew this circuit very well as he had raced here since
1995. He made a circuit-record here as well in 1999 that was broken
a year later by his rival, Walter Leitgeb (his car equipped with
a Formula-1 engine).
On the Saturday trainings László could egde ahead
of Leitgeb. During the further trainings the two rivals had a spectacular
fight. László Szász strove for the new record
and Leitgeb for overcoming László.
On Sunday the weather didn't show favour towards the racers, who
had to run on the 3 km long circuit in heavy rain. At the first
run László did his best and achieved the best time-result,
while Leitgeb broke his car at the beginning of the circuit. The
second run didn't bring in the well-deserved victory, so László
had to be satisfied with the 2nd place in the absolute category,
but he turned out to be the best among the formula cars.
